Ministry Overview
Ephesians 4:11-12 explains, "It was He (Jesus) who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up."
The word for "service" or "ministry" in this passage is the Greek word "diakonos." It denotes the loving personal service of a believer in Jesus Christ to others.
The first part of Ephesians 4:11 may apply specifically to those we think of as professional ministers (In the Lutheran Church that would include pastors, teachers, DCEs,etc.). It is their role within the body of Christ "to prepare" God's people for service but verse 12 clearly applies to every Christian. Every Christian is a minister.
The ministries of Zion Lutheran church are all the places where we are prepared for (Places to Grow) or actively engaged in (Places to Serve) loving acts of acts of service to others in the church, in the community, and in the world. Why? It's our loving response to God's incredible gift of forgiveness and salvation but it is also "so that" more people will come to learn of God's amazing love for them.
